We are contacting libraries in groups when the new MP3 format is available for purchase.  We can only add libraries in groups as adding the format support, FAQ’s and site changes is a large undertaking.
All libraries should be turned on by the end of August and I will be sure to contact you when the format is available for you to purchase from your Content Reserve accounts.

ListenNJ MP3 UPDATE (August 12, 2008)

Hi all. We have submitted our initial order for MP3 titles for ListenNJ. How it works is that we will now be put in a queue for Overdrive to add format support, FAQ updates and general site updates that are needed to the ListenNJ website for our patrons to use the MP3 files. Unlike our previous process, the titles will NOT be immediately available. When we do have access to the MP3 files via ListenNJ I will let everyone know.

Below you will find the title list of our Inital MP3 Order, as well as the list with the full offering of MP3 titles currently offered from Overdrive. In the full list the first sheet is the full list of titles available in the MP3 (or OAM) format, the second sheet is a list of our existing collection, and the third sheet is a merged list of our current collection with the available MP3 titles with the duplicates between the MP3 (OAM) and the current (OAB) formats marked for easy recognition.

We will be placing holds orders in August and September, but no new title orders will be placed until October. Hopefully by then we will have additional MP3 titles to choose from. Feel free to contact me (Tina) at 973.744.0500 x2230 or tdoody@montlib.org if you have any questions. THANKS!

COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENTS

·         Split for budget is 25/75 for big purchase/monthly purchase. (changed from 50/50)

·         Maintain 5:1 ratio of holds on titles as much as possible, no more than 6 to 1.  The wait is about 2 months if on-hold.

·         Add mid-month order to purchase on-reserve titles when necessary. Collection Development Committee will do both types of order lists.

·         Maintain standard to own no more than 6 copies of a title.

·         Send suggestions from your library customers and staff proactively to Tina Doody (tdoody@montlib.org) for distribution to selector for that month. Selectors will let members know whether or not a title can be added.

·         Continue checking the backlist because older titles are often added. This could complete a series or author’s full list.

·         Maintain timeframe to submit orders the end of the each month. Tina submits order after review.

·         Can change 10% of the 100 Blackstone titles – this is 10 a year. If changed people need to know so they can remove MARC records. Collection Development Committee will look at those titles not circ-ing and decide to remove and let people know.  Everything had circ-ed at least once last year when Tina had checked.

·         Consensus NOT to add new formats (ebooks/videos/music) to collection in 2008.

PROPOSED COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT POLICY

Please see the proposed ListenNJ Collection Development Policy document that is linked below. I would like to make our policy and procedures a little more cohesive and put them in a format where everything is in one place. This will be up for discussion at the May 12th Group Meeting and/or you can contact me with concerns directly at tdoody@montlib.org.

JULY 2008 ORDERS

The July orders have been submitted. We are still waiting for the full list of MP3 titles from overdrive. At this time we have not yet been notified that the titles are available for purchase. I will keep everyone posted as soon as they become available. As usual please let Tina (tdoody@montlib.org) know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. And as usual PLEASE send any suggestions for future orders. Happy Listening and thanks to this month's selector Maryann Ralph from West Orange!!!!

PREVIOUSLY SUBMITTED ORDERS

Notes from Tina (updated Feb. 16, 2008)

Pillars of the Earth UPDATE: Unfortunately this title is no longer available from Overdrive. In response to the large number of holds placed on our single copy the following message has been added to the item's record. This title is no longer available for the library to add additional copies to its digital collection. In an effort to alleviate the waiting list for the title, the lending period has been reduced to 5 days. As an alternative to joining the waiting list, this title may be available for check out as a CD or cassette at your library.

We will be doing a mid-month order for holds that will come out of the total monthly budget.  The primary order will be submitted at the end of the month and a list of titles purchased will be posted to the yahoo group.

We will be keeping holds to no more than a 6 holds per copy ratio with a maximum of 6 copies per title.

We focus on primarily unabridged titles but will evaluate abridged titles on a case-by-case basis. Only OAB format items are being purchased at this time.

Suggestions are welcome. Individual libraries should first check Content Reserve to see if the suggested title is in the catalog.  If it is, they should send the title information to me at tdoody@montlib.org and I will forward the information to that month’s selector.

We currently have 3 open spots on the Collection Development Committee. If anyone else is interested they should let me know.

misun:Don't worry, Tina! We can always revert the page to previous versions. For your information, when you paste new contents on a page, please make sure that the existing contents are not removed. Place your cursor at the end of the page you are editing and paste the contents that you want to add. I will add a note on the front page on this matter.
Tina Marie Doody:Unfortunately this page got wiped out when I tried to add the November order information. I have contacted Mi-Sun and hopefully she will be able to fix my mistake. SORRY EVERYONE!!!
